A shallow magnitude 4.3 earthquake was reported in the morning near Agrinio, Aitoloakarnania, West Greece, Greece.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, at 7:54 am local time at a shallow depth of 24. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Asos (pop. 82) located 1 km from the epicenter, Ithaki (pop. 1,800) 15 km away, Sami (pop. 1,300) 17 km away, Faraklata (pop. 1,100) 20 km away, Lixouri (pop. 3,800) 22 km away, and Argostoli (pop. 9,800) 23 km away.
