This will likely cause urban and small stream flooding. Low lying and/or poor drainage areas will experience minor flooding in the advisory area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. – Some locations that will experience flooding include… Hubbard, Mount Calm, Malone, Penelope, Birome and Watt.

A very shallow magnitude 3.9 earthquake was reported early morning near Elko, Elko County, Nevada, USA.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Sunday, August 31st, 2025, at 1:49 am local time at a very shallow depth of 5.7 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.7. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.7.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Valmy (pop. 37) located 37 miles from the epicenter, Battle Mountain (pop. 3,600) 42 miles away, Carlin (pop. 2,300) 48 miles away, Winnemucca (pop. 7,900) 56 miles away, and Elko (pop. 20,300) 56 miles away.
