The William B. Burnsed Jr. Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering (www.southalabama.edu/colleges/engineering/me/) at the University of South Alabama (USA) in Mobile, Alabama, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Instruction in Aerospace Engineering.  This is a full-time, non-tenure track, 9-month appointment. The expected starting date is August 15, 2026. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in aerospace engineering or a closely related field at the time of appointment. The successful candidate must have prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level, with preference given to those with expertise in compressible flows and propulsion. Applicants with industrial experience in aerospace engineering applications are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the aerospace and mechanical engineering curricula.

Kirishima (Kyushu): (29 Aug) The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that the eruption continued at Kirishimayama between 25 August 2025 (local) and 28 August 2025 (local). The alert level at Kirishimayama remained at “Level 3 – Restriction on proximity to the volcano” (on a 5-level scale). Ashfall was confirmed S of Shinmoedake Crater, resulting in ash deposits across Kirishima City, Kagoshima (22 km SSW), and Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki, which obscured road markings.
