The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 6.2 quake in Russia near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Kamchatka, only 14 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early evening on Monday, November 3rd, 2025, at 6:10 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.6. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 6.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (pop. 181,200) located 124 km from the epicenter, Vilyuchinsk (pop. 25,200) 125 km away, Paratunka (pop. 1,800) 135 km away, and Yelizovo (pop. 40,700) 146 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send
