An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 occurred only 3 minutes ago 27 miles south of Kalifornsky, Alaska, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 15 miles beneath the epicenter near Kalifornsky, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, USA, around noon on Sunday, November 23rd, 2025, at 1:09 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ninilchik (pop. 880) located 8 miles from the epicenter, Fritz Creek (pop. 1,900) 21 miles away, Anchor Point (pop. 1,900) 22 miles away, Cohoe (pop. 1,400) 24 miles away, Homer (pop. 5,500) 27 miles away, Kalifornsky (pop. 7,900) 27 miles away, Soldotna (pop. 4,500) 34 miles away, and Kenai (pop. 7,700) 37 miles away.

Additional dense fog and low stratus is possible tonight through Monday morning. Dense fog may limit visibility to a quarter-mile or less, which would likely impact the Monday morning commute. If fog becomes more widespread, a Dense Fog Advisory may be issued. Use caution driving in fog. Visibility can change drastically over short distances. Slow down, use low beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance between vehicles.
