France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) reported a magnitude 2.7 quake in France near Clermont-Ferrand, Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, only 24 minutes ago. The earthquake struck late at night on Saturday, October 24th, 2026, at 11:30 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5 km. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but it was probably felt by many people as light vibrations in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Saint-Amant-Roche-Savine (pop. 630), located 1 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ambert (pop. 7,900), located 9 km from the epicenter. In Issoire (pop. 16,000, 30 km away), Montbrison (pop. 16,200, 34 km away), Cournon-d’Auvergne (pop.
