The National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported a magnitude 2.7 quake in Greece near Argostoli, Kefallonia, Ionian Islands, 36 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, at 11:06 am local time at a shallow depth of 15.90 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.7 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 2.6, The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 2.6, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 2.7.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Davgata (pop. 62) located 2 km from the epicenter, Faraklata (pop. 1,100) 2 km away, Argostoli (pop. 9,800) 3 km away, Lixouri (pop. 3,800) 5 km away, and Valsamata (pop. 1000) 8 km away. In Sami (pop. 1,300, 14 km away), Poros (pop. 1,100, 24 km away), Ithaki (pop. 1,800, 26 km away), and Zakynthos (pop. 11,500, 59 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
