An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred early morning on Sunday, July 20th, 2025, at 6:20 am local time near Snyder, Scurry County, Texas, USA, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 3.9 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.3. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Hermleigh (pop. 350) located 9 miles from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rotan (pop. 1,400) located 14 miles from the epicenter, Snyder (pop. 11,800) 15 miles away, Roscoe (pop.
