Just 10 minutes ago, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Guarda, Guarda Municipality, Distrito da Guarda, Portugal. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Saturday, December 13th, 2025, at 12:38 am local time, at a shallow depth of 23. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.7 earthquake. A third agency, Spain’s Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.7.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Guarda (pop. 32,100) located 18 km from the epicenter, Sequeira (pop. 28,500) 20 km away, Aguiar da Beira (pop. 5,500) 24 km away, Mangualde (pop. 8,900) 26 km away, Mangualde (pop. 8,900) 26 km away, Seia (pop. 7,100) 31 km away, Sao Romao (pop. 6,500) 32 km away, Covilha (pop. 17,600) 37 km away, and Custoias (pop. 19,400) 56 km away.
