An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred just 14 minutes ago, 105 km southwest of Kencong, Indonesia, according to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
The quake struck at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Kencong, Kabupaten Jember, Jawa Timur, Indonesia, in the early evening on Monday, October 12th, 2026, at 7:58 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the RaspberryShake citizen-seismograph network, which also listed the quake at magnitude 4.7.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kencong (pop. 43,000), located 105 km from the epicenter, and Dampit (pop. 23,100), 113 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if they change and follow up if other significant news about the quake becomes available.
