An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 4 minutes ago 75 km south of Poso, Indonesia, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 0. km beneath the epicenter near Poso, Kabupaten Poso, Sulawesi Tengah, Indonesia, in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025, at 5:19 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Masamba (pop. 38,000) located 66 km from the epicenter, and Poso (pop. 47,500) 75 km away.
