Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.6 just reported 103 km northeast of Tobelo, Indonesia

Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported a magnitude 4.6 quake in Indonesia near Tobelo, North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, at 10:44 am local time at an intermediate to considerable depth of 170. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tobelo (pop. 34,200) located 103 km from the epicenter, and Galela (pop. 8,800) 105 km away.
