An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred just 4 minutes ago, 47 km southeast of Clermont-Ferrand, France, according to France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS).
The quake struck at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter near Clermont-Ferrand, Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France, around noon on Saturday, October 24th, 2026, at 1:04 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which also listed it as a magnitude 3.1 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage but was probably felt by many people as light vibrations in the area of the epicenter.
