A magnitude 4.0 earthquake was reported in the morning near Inzai, Inzai-shi, Chiba, Japan.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake struck on Wednesday, October 21st, 2026, at 10:04 am local time at an intermediate depth of 70. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Japan’s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.0.
