An earthquake of magnitude 2.8 occurred early on Thursday morning, October 22nd, 2026, at 5:28 am local time near Brive-la-Gaillarde, Corrèze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, as reported by France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones because they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Lachapelle-Auzac (pop. 860), located 5 km from the epicenter; Souillac (pop. 3,900), 7 km away; and Eyvigues-et-Eybenes (pop. 1,200), 9 km away.
