An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred around noon on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, at 1:32 pm local time near Kefamenanu, North Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, as reported by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 56. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Naisano Dua (pop. 2,300) located 60 km from the epicenter, Kefamenanu (pop. 48,200) 85 km away, and Soe (pop. 40,200) 103 km away.
