Moderate magnitude 4.8 earthquake at 35 km depth

13 Oct 06:17 UTC: First to report: RaspberryShake after 16 minutes.
13 Oct 06:17: Now using data updates from GFZ
13 Oct 06:30: Now using data updates from EMSC

Update Tue, 13 Oct 2026, 06:18

Moderate 4.8 quake hits near Sanchez-Mira, Cagayan, Cagayan Valley, PhilippinesA shallow magnitude 4.8 earthquake was reported early afternoon near Sanchez-Mira, Cagayan, Cagayan Valley, Philippines.
According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the quake hit on Tuesday, October 13th, 2026, at 2:01 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.8 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Namuac (pop. 3,000) located 66 km from the epicenter, Claveria (pop. 10,600) 67 km away, Sanchez-Mira (pop. 26,300) 72 km away, Santa Praxedes
