A magnitude 2.8 earthquake near Gawler, South Australia, Australia, was reported just 6 minutes ago by RaspberryShake’s citizen-seismograph network, considered the main national agency monitoring seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles beneath the epicenter early on Monday morning, October 19, 2026, at 2:05 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Tanunda (pop. 4,500), located 1 mile from the epicenter; Nuriootpa (pop. 6,200), 4 miles away; and Greenock (pop. 1,100), 4 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Angaston (pop. 2,100), located 5 miles from the epicenter; Lyndoch (pop. 2,000), 7 miles away; and Freeling (pop. 2,200), 9 miles away. In Gawler (pop. 20,000, 13 miles away), Adelaide Hills (pop. 72,300, 31 miles away), and Adelaide (pop. 1,469,200, 35 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
