A very shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported in the evening near Lublin, Lublin Voivodeship, Poland.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Monday, December 15th, 2025, at 9:52 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 4. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Ostrow Lubelski (pop. 2,200) located 4 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Lubartow (pop. 22,800) located 14 km from the epicenter, Leczna (pop. 21,700) 19 km away, Swidnik (pop. 40,100) 29 km away, and Lublin (pop. 360,000) 30 km away. In Radzyn Podlaski (pop. 16,100, 37 km away), Pulawy (pop. 49,800, 59 km away), Chelm (pop. 60,200, 59 km away), and Lukow (pop.
