Just 14 minutes ago, a magnitude-4.6 earthquake struck near La Chorrera, La Chorrera District, Panama Oeste, Panama. The tremor was recorded around noon on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 1:13 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was reported by the RaspberryShake citizen-seismograph network, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Playa Leona (pop. 560), located 2 km from the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in La Chorrera (pop. 61,200), located 10 km from the epicenter; Veracruz (pop. 17,100), 22 km away; Arraijan (pop. 76,800), 24 km away; Ancon (pop. 20,700), 32 km away; Panama City (pop. 408,200), 37 km away; Chilibre (pop. 33,500), 45 km away; San Miguelito (pop. 321,500), 46 km away; Juan Diaz (pop. 100,600), 48 km away; and Pedregal (pop. 51,600), 50 km away.
