A very dramatic situation occurred at Etna’s three summit craters over the past few days, including two closely spaced lava fountaining episodes from the North East crater, which is considered a rare event.
On 24 December,the seismic network of the volcano observatory INGV-Osservatorio Etneo in Catania registered an increase of volcanic tremor, ground deformation and infrasonic activity, suggesting a coming surge of magma.
