The British Geological Survey (BGS) reported a magnitude 2.4 quake in the United Kingdom near Morecambe, Lancashire, England, 33 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Friday, December 19th, 2025, at 5:03 am local time at a very shallow depth of 2. km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 2.4 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Silverdale (pop. 1,300) located 5 km from the epicenter, Morecambe (pop. 51,600) 7 km away, Heysham (pop. 17,000) 10 km away, and Lancaster (pop. 47,200) 10 km away. In Kendal (pop. 29,100, 23 km away), Barrow in Furness (pop. 45,900, 24 km away), Fylde (pop. 76,500, 34 km away), Blackpool (pop. 145,000, 37 km away), and Preston (pop. 313,300, 42 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
