We estimate crude oil inventories in China increased by about 900,000 barrels per day (b/d) between January and August this year, essentially acting as a source of demand by removing barrels from the global markets. The stock builds in China limited the downward price pressure we would otherwise expect to see with growing inventories, keeping the Brent crude oil spot prices in a relatively tight range around $68 per barrel (b) in the second and third quarters of 2025.
We estimate global petroleum inventories rose by an average of 1.8 million b/d in the second and third quarters in our October Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO). Global oil inventories have been growing in 2025 as crude oil production from OPEC+ members and non-OPEC+ producers in North and South America has outpaced global demand

Just 19 minutes ago, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Ozernovskiy, Kamchatka, Russia. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday, October 10th, 2025, at 1:28 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 57.01 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) which listed the quake at magnitude 6.3. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 5.3, France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) at magnitude 5.3, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 5.5, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 5.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Ozernovskiy (pop. 2,600) located 119 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Vilyuchinsk (pop. 25,200) located 146 km from the epicenter, and Paratunka (pop. 1,800) 149 km away.
