Just 36 minutes ago, a 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Oswiecim, Oświęcim County, Lesser Poland, Poland. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, at 5:33 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Grojec (pop. 2,900) located 4 km from the epicenter, Kety (pop. 19,200) 9 km away, Oswiecim (pop. 39,100) 9 km away, Czechowice-Dziedzice (pop. 34,700) 14 km away, Andrychow (pop. 22,000) 15 km away, and Bielsko-Biala (pop. 176,500) 18 km away. In Chrzanow (pop. 40,000, 25 km away), Tychy (pop. 130,000, 26 km away), and Krakow (pop. 755,100, 54 km away), the quake was probably not felt.

Etna (Sicily, Italy): The Istituto Nazionale Geofisica e Vulcanologia Catania reported that another phase of strombolian-type activity occurred last night.
