A magnitude 4.5 earthquake near Tahuna, Kabupaten Kepulauan Sangihe, Sulawesi Utara, Indonesia, was reported just 5 minutes ago by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the main national agency monitoring seismic activity in Indonesia. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate depth of 91. km beneath the epicenter on the morning of Wednesday, September 30th, 2026, at 10:30 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, which also listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tahuna (pop. 35,300), located 73 km from the epicenter.
