Just 22 minutes ago, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near San Isidro, Pérez Zeledón, Provincia de San Jose, Costa Rica. The tremor was recorded late at night on Sunday, September 28th, 2025, at 11:32 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 0. km below the surface.
The event was filed by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Daniel Flores (pop. 10,000) located 48 km from the epicenter, San Isidro (pop. 34,900) 48 km away, and Quepos (pop. 7,800) 49 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tejar (pop. 22,400) located 84 km from the epicenter, Paraiso (pop. 39,700) 90 km away, Cartago (pop. 26,600) 93 km away, San Miguel (pop. 28,800) 94 km away, Curridabat (pop. 34,600) 98 km away, and San Jose (pop. 335,000) 101 km away.
