Just 21 minutes ago, a 2.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Rome, Lazio, Italy. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Monday, December 29th, 2025, at 5:20 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 11.60 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.6 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cecchina (pop. 9,100) located 1 km from the epicenter, Albano Laziale (pop. 26,700) 3 km away, Ariccia (pop. 17,500) 3 km away, Genzano di Roma (pop. 20,600) 4 km away, Marino (pop. 44,100) 8 km away, and Velletri (pop. 52,900) 11 km away. In Aprilia (pop. 75,000, 12 km away), Rome (pop. 2,318,900, 24 km away), Acilia-Castel Fusano-Ostia Antica (pop. 129,400, 27 km away), and Vatican City (pop. 830, 27 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
