An intermediate-depth magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported early in the morning near Tiakur, Southwest Maluku Regency, Maluku, Indonesia.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake struck on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, at 5:02 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 130. km. The earthquake may have felt weaker because of its relatively great depth below the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tiakur (pop. 5,200), located 100 km from the epicenter.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake becomes available.
