Just 17 minutes ago, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Rantauprapat, Labuhan Batu Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025, at 8:22 am local time, at a great depth of 524. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, the first seismological agency to report it.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Rantauprapat (pop. 103,000, 91 km away), Bandar (pop. 31,400, 102 km away), Tanjungbalai (pop. 183,200, 107 km away), Teluk Nibung (pop. 25,100, 108 km away), and Klang (pop. 879,900, 117 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
