An earthquake of magnitude 2.9 occurred only 26 minutes ago 27 km southeast of Rome, Italy, Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10.40 km beneath the epicenter near Rome, Lazio, Italy, early morning on Thursday, May 8th, 2025, at 3:42 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.7.
