An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred around noon on Monday, October 13th, 2025, at 12:54 pm local time near El Sombrero, Julián Mellado Municipality, Guárico, Venezuela, as reported by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in El Sombrero (pop. 31,800) located 38 km from the epicenter, Calabozo (pop. 168,600) 64 km away, Chaguaramas (pop. 17,700) 74 km away, Valle de La Pascua (pop. 153,100) 96 km away, Altagracia de Orituco (pop. 68,200) 101 km away, San Juan de los Morros (pop. 160,900) 105 km away, and San Juan de los Morros (pop. 160,900) 105 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ocumare del Tuy (pop. 166,100) located 115 km from the epicenter.
