A magnitude 2.8 earthquake near Leigh Creek, South Australia, Australia, was reported only 25 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 1.9 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday, April 7th, 2025, at 6:23 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Leigh Creek (pop. 270) located 13 miles from the epicenter. In Copley (pop. 81, 13 miles away), Lyndhurst (pop. 35, 18 miles away), Beltana (pop. 26, 24 miles away), Warraweena (pop. 20, 31 miles away), and Farina (pop. 49, 32 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
