A magnitude 3.9 earthquake near Foligno, Province of Perugia, Umbria, Italy, was reported only 4 minutes ago by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter late at night on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025, at 11:31 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.8 earthquake. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Campello sul Clitunno (pop. 2,100) located 8 km from the epicenter, Trevi (pop. 4,900) 12 km away, Spoleto (pop. 19,300) 13 km away, and Foligno (pop. 56,900) 21 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very
