Fri, 23 May 2025, 13:19 | BY: EARTHQUAKEMONITOR

An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred in the morning on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, at 7:08 am local time near Conda, Caribou County, Idaho, USA, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10.1 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.6 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.6.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Fairview (pop. 280) located 13 miles from the epicenter, Afton (pop. 2,000) 16 miles away, Conda (pop. 21,300) 16 miles away, Soda Springs (pop. 2,900) 19 miles away, Montpelier (pop. 2,500) 23 miles away, and Star Valley Ranch (pop. 1,500) 26 miles away.

If you felt it, report it through our site or app right now!
