Just 18 minutes ago, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Pasto, Departamento de Narino, Colombia. The tremor was recorded early evening on Saturday, August 30th, 2025, at 6:18 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 8. km below the surface.
The event was filed by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Pasto (pop. 392,900) located 6 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include El Tambo (pop. 12,500) located 19 km from the epicenter, Sandona (pop. 10,400) 19 km away, Buesaco (pop. 20,000) 21 km away, San Lorenzo (pop. 16,700) 28 km away, Samaniego (pop. 49,100) 34 km away, Tuquerres (pop. 40,000) 41 km away, and La Union (pop. 15,100) 42 km away. In Ipiales (pop. 77,700, 62 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
