A magnitude 5.2 earthquake near Kozan, Adana, Turkey, was reported only 20 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered one of the key international agencies monitoring seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter in the early afternoon on Sunday, October 4th, 2026, at 2:43 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) at magnitude 5.2, the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) at magnitude 5.1, France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) at magnitude 5.0, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.6, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.6.
Generally, quakes of this magnitude are recorded by more than one agency, and the results can vary, with subsequent reports that come in after the first one often showing greater accuracy.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was

An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred just 18 minutes ago, 42 km northeast of Kozan, Turkey, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake struck at a very shallow depth of 8.70 km beneath the epicenter near Kozan, Adana, Turkey, in the early afternoon on Sunday, October 4th, 2026, at 2:36 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which reported a magnitude of 4.8; the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, which reported a magnitude of 4.6; and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which reported a magnitude of 4.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Pasali (pop. 1000), located 10 km from the epicenter; Kozan
