The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has determined that an “Air Pollution Action Day” will remain in effect for the greater Chicago metropolitan area through Sunday night, August 3rd. A Chicago area “Air Pollution Action Day” is declared when weather conditions are such that widespread ozone and or particulate levels are expected to be at or above the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category of the Air Quality Index for multiple days. The officials at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management have declared an Air Quality Action Day, in effect through Sunday night. An Air Quality Action Day for PM 2.5 has been issued. Fine particulate levels are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range.
