Peru was shaken near Aguaytia, Padre Abad, Ucayali, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 only 12 minutes ago, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 101. km beneath the epicenter near Aguaytia, Padre Abad, Ucayali, Peru, early evening on Monday, December 1st, 2025, at 6:26 pm local time. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.1. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 5.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Yuyapichis (pop. 740) located 20 km from the epicenter, Aguaytia (pop. 18,300) 68 km away, and Tingo Maria (pop. 53,200) 102 km away.
