A magnitude 4.8 earthquake occurred just 4 minutes ago, 17 miles southwest of Warragul, Victoria, Australia, according to the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake.
The quake struck at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles beneath the epicenter near Warragul, Baw Baw, Victoria, Australia, in the early morning on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, at 2:10 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the epicentral area. It should not have caused significant damage, apart from objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Arawata (pop. 79), located 0 miles from the epicenter; Korumburra (pop. 4,300), 4 miles away; and Leongatha (pop. 5,400), 7 miles away.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Warragul (pop. 19,900), located 17 miles from the epicenter; Drouin (pop. 11,900), 18 miles away; Traralgon (pop. 26,900), 39 miles away; Frankston East (pop. 34,500), 44 miles away; Glen Waverly (pop. 42,600), 53 miles away; and Melbourne (pop. 5,350,700), 64 miles away.
