A shallow magnitude 3.7 earthquake was reported early in the morning near Alicudi Porto, Province of Messina, Sicily, Italy.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake occurred on Thursday, October 22nd, 2026, at 5:37 am local time, at a shallow depth of 14.20 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), which also listed it as a magnitude 3.7 earthquake.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Alicudi Porto (pop. 110), located 33 km from the epicenter. In Cefalu (pop. 11,600, 81 km away), Capo d’Orlando (pop. 12,000, 88 km away), and Bagheria (pop. 53,100, 92 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
