An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred only 7 minutes ago 10 km north of Taitung, Taiwan, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 11.80 km beneath the epicenter near Taitung, Taiwan, in the afternoon on Wednesday, December 24th, 2025, at 5:47 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
