The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.0 quake in Italy near Pozzuoli, Naples, Campania, 31 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Monday, September 1st, 2025, at 4:55 am local time at a very shallow depth of 0.30 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Pozzuoli (pop. 81,200) located 3 km from the epicenter.
In Bagnoli (pop. 23,300) located 4 km from the epicenter, Pianura (pop. 57,800) 5 km away, Quarto (pop. 37,700) 6 km away, Soccavo (pop. 45,300) 6 km away, Fuorigrotta (pop. 76,500) 7 km away, and Marano di Napoli (pop. 49,900) 9 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Naples (pop. 909,000) located 13 km from the epicenter, and Giugliano in Campania (pop. 80,300) 13 km away.
