Just 11 minutes ago, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck near Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, Mimaropa, Philippines. The tremor was recorded on the morning of Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 9:34 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was reported by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, which also listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the epicentral area. It should not have caused significant damage, apart from objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Tayaman (pop. 5,100), located 11 km from the epicenter, and Mamburao (pop. 23,900), 13 km away.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Sablayan (pop. 91,400), located 59 km from the epicenter, Balayan (pop. 50,100), 75 km away, Balayan (pop. 50,100), 75 km away, Batangas (pop. 237,400), 79 km away, and Rosario (pop. 128,400), 86 km away.
