The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of North Dakota invites applications for a 12-month Open Rank Teaching Professor position to support the Aerospace Engineering program. Depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications, the position will be offered at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor.

The department will consider applications in the general area of aerospace and mechanical engineering, such as (1) aerospace vehicle design, (2) experimental aeromechanics, (3) aerospace structures.

The appointment is expected to begin on August 16, 2025, or later.

On 27 February 2025, a radiography camera containing 2.738 TBq (74 Ci) of Ir-192 was reported stolen from a licensee’s truck. On 26 February 2025, the radiographer stayed the night at a hotel in Kernersville, NC and discovered the next morning that the camera was missing. The radiographer had not followed approved procedures for securing the camera. They immediately notified North Carolina state authorities and local law enforcement. A search of the area was performed but the device could not be located. Hotel surveillance camera footage was reviewed but did not provide any useful information. North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services issued a press release (https://www.ncdhhs.gov/news/press-releases/2025/02/28/ncdhhs-issues-alert-missing-radioactive-material-triad-area) to warn the public of the potential danger of the device and to contact authorities if it is found or anyone has knowledge of its location. North Carolina state regulators and law enforcement investigations are ongoing. Based on activity, the source involved was Category 2.

Be Alert to Fraud After Kentucky Flooding

FRANKFORT, Ky — Kentuckians should be aware that con artists and criminals may try to obtain money or steal personal information through fraud or identity theft after recent flooding. In some cases, thieves try to apply for FEMA assistance using names, addresses and Social Security numbers they have stolen from people affected by the disaster.

If a FEMA inspector comes to your home and you did not submit a FEMA application, your information may have been used without your knowledge to create a FEMA application. If this happens, please inform the inspector that you did not apply for FEMA assistance so they can submit a request to stop further processing of the application. 

If you did not apply for assistance but receive a letter from FEMA, please call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. The helpline will submit a request to stop further processing of that application.

If you do want to apply for FEMA assistance after stopping an application made in your name without your knowledge, the helpline will assist you in creating a new application.

Scams 

FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) crews, housing inspectors and other officials will be working in areas impacted by the flooding. FEMA officials will carry photo identification badges. For security reasons, federal identification may not be photographed or reproduced.

How to Apply for FEMA Assistance Following the February Severe Storms and Floods

FRANKFORT, Ky — Kentucky homeowners and renters in Breathitt, Clay, Estill, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Letcher, Martin, Owsley, Perry, Pike and Simpson counties who experienced damage or losses caused by the February severe storms and floods may apply for FEMA disaster assistance.

How to Apply for FEMA Assistance

There are several ways to apply: Go online to DisasterAssistance.gov, call 800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to midnight local time every day, use the FEMA mobile app or visit a Disaster Recovery Center. If you use a relay service such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA your number for that service.

When you apply for assistance, please have the following information ready:  

A current phone number where you can be contacted.Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.Your Social Security Number.A general list of damage and losses.Banking information if you choose direct deposit.If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.

Residents should file insurance claims as soon as possible. FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. If the insurance policy does not cover all disaster expenses, policy holders may be eligible for federal assistance. 

Take photos to document damage and begin cleanup and repairs to prevent further damage. Remember to keep receipts from all purchases related to any cleanup and repair.
