An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred early Wednesday evening, October 7th, 2026, at 6:57 pm local time near Manado, Kota Manado, Sulawesi Utara, Indonesia, as reported by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 143. km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relatively great depth below the surface, making it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, which also listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Laikit, Laikit II (Dimembe) (pop. 8,000), located 7 km from the epicenter; Manado (pop. 451,900), 9 km away; Tondano (pop. 33,300), 16 km away; Tomohon (pop. 27,600), 20 km away; Bitung (pop. 225,100), 23 km away; and Bitung (pop. 137,400), 30 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if they change and follow up if other significant news about the quake becomes available. If you’re in
