An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 occurred just 4 minutes ago, 43 miles southeast of Homer, Alaska, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake struck at a shallow depth of 17 miles beneath the epicenter near Homer, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, USA, on the morning of Saturday, October 17th, 2026, at 11:14 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which also listed it as a magnitude 3.8 earthquake.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Halibut Cove (pop. 76), located 31 miles from the epicenter; Fritz Creek (pop. 1,900), 36 miles away; Homer (pop. 5,500), 43 miles away; and Diamond Ridge (pop. 1,200), 43 miles away. In Seward (pop. 2,800, 53 miles away), Anchor Point (pop. 1,900, 55 miles away), and Bear Creek (pop. 2,000, 57 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
