A new eruption started at the volcano, the first recorded in historic times, ending a century-long period of dormancy. The eruption began Sunday early morning (4:50 am local time, or 16:50 pm GMT on 2 Aug) with explosions from a summit vent that sent ash plumes to 3-4 km (10,000-12,000 ft) altitude.
Krasheninnikov is a snow-clad majestic Krasheninnikov stratovolcano is the central part of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve, and belongs to the very active eastern chain of volcanoes in Kamchatka. There are no nearby larger populated places; its eruption is not posing much threat to infrastructure. The nearest town, Milkovo, is about 150 km away.
Explosive activity has increased and ash plumes are now reaching 5-6 km (15,000-20,000 ft) altitude. Ash fall has been recorded

At 515 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 6 miles north of Sweetwater to Twitty to 3 miles south of Mclean. Movement was southeast at 40 mph. HAZARD…Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include… Wellington, Shamrock, Wheeler, Mclean, Lutie, Twitty, Dozier, Lela, Samnorwood, Quail, and Kellerville.

At 511 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 4 miles north of Vinson, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include… Vinson and Madge.
