The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency has issued an Air Quality Advisory, which is IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM PDT THURSDAY. An Air Quality Advisory for Smoke has been issued. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels at times through 9 PM PDT Thursday. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. At 522 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Kranzburg, or 9 miles north of Castlewood, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include… Goodwin and Bemis.

At 420 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.75 and 1.75 inches of rain have fallen between Ute Park and Ocate on the Cimarron River and tributaries of the Canadian River. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include… Vermejo Park. This includes Highway 64 between Mile Markers 320 and 321.
