A shallow magnitude 2.8 earthquake was reported in the morning near Ehingen, Tübingen Region, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.
According to the Swiss Seismological Service (SED), the quake hit on Monday, December 15th, 2025, at 10:47 am local time at a shallow depth of 22.30 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Unterstadion (pop. 760, 2 km away), Ehingen (pop. 27,300, 8 km away), Laupheim (pop. 19,000, 12 km away), Biberach an der Riss (pop. 32,300, 14 km away), Bad Saulgau (pop. 17,900, 27 km away), Ulm (pop. 120,500, 29 km away), Neu-Ulm (pop. 51,400, 30 km away), and Reutlingen (pop. 112,600, 49 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
