An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred around noon on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 12:28 pm local time near Blitar, Kota Blitar, Jawa Timur, Indonesia, according to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake occurred at an intermediate depth of 109 km. The earthquake’s impact may have been tempered by its relatively great depth below the surface, making it feel weaker at the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, which also listed it as a magnitude 4.9 earthquake.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Sumberpucung (pop. 35,300), located 53 km from the epicenter; Blitar (pop. 150,400), 58 km away; Kepanjen (pop. 51,900), 60 km away; Kedungwaru (pop. 80,300), 73 km away; Malang (pop. 847,200), 78 km away; Batu (pop. 221,700), 85 km away; Singosari (pop. 180,700), 88 km away; and Kediri (pop. 235,100), 92 km away.
